ELMORE LEONARD’S 10 RULES OF WRITING November 4, 2010

Taut and quite concise, this book contains only a handful of paragraphs worth of very sharp commentary about the art of writing with a few examples thrown in.  It is, of course, quite witty, and the illustrations are a hoot. This selection is a wonderful stocking stuffer for the writer in your life because as they refer back to it, it will amuse and inspire without taking too much time away from their own writing and research.

There has been some criticism that this book is merely a magazine article stretched out into a book, and that may be true, but the meat of the book contains morsels that, given thought, can truly enhance a writer’s work. It really is perfect when viewed in that respect, rather than as a reference work, and it is, after all is said and done, written by a true master of the craft of writing.
